30th Dresden Days of Contemporary Music #pause

From April 11 to May 2, 2021, the festival of contemporary music, originally founded in 1987 by Udo Zimmermann, will take place under the direction of Moritz Lobeck in HELLERAU and at various locations in Dresden. Cooperations with institutions such as the Semperoper, Staatskapelle and Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Elblandphilharmonie, objekt klein a, Filmfest Dresden or Hochschule für Musik stand for an opening into the city and towards an larger audience.

With the theme “pause”, the 30th edition of this renowned international festival establishes a focus on current artistic, political, social and above all ecological transformation processes – and on the questions of what functions contemporary music, artist and orchestras and such a festival can and should take on in the future. In addition to projects by younger generations and classics of (East) Modernism, the program includes new, historical, experimental and speculative concert and music theater concepts as well as hybrid forms in coproductions with ZKM Karlsruhe, Biennale Munich, DAAD, Goethe-Institut or MUTEK, among others.

Ensemble like Zeitkratzer, Trickster Orchestra, Auditiv Vokal, Decoder Ensemble, Staatskapelle Dresden, Pisse, Elblandphilharmonie, Black Page Orchestra or ensemble unitedberlin as well as artists like Trond Reinholdtsen, Amy Bryce, Frieder Zimmermann, Mirela Ivicevic, Robert Lippok, Paul-Heinz Dittrich, Óscar Escudero & Belenish Moreno-Gil, Helmut Oehring, Ashley Fure or Brigitta Muntendorf present their projects or work on them as resident artists in HELLERAU.
