Shout Aloud
Yasmeen Godder Company & Dikla
‘Shout Aloud’ is a special collaboration between choreographer Yasmeen Godder and Dikla, one of Israel’s best-known singers. The piece is inspired by Dikla’s first, ground-breaking album ‘Ahava Musica’ from 2000, on which the artist mixes classical Arabic music with energetic dance electronics and experimental rock. Together with eight dancers of different origins and ages, Godder’s choreography brings to life endurance, resistance, grief, anger, helplessness, rebellion and solidarity from a female perspective. With their playful and raw body language, Godder and her ensemble touch on levels that inscribe themselves deeply into the body. They are accompanied live by Dikla and nine musicians, who create a moving sonic framework with traditional Arabic and contemporary instruments.

Yasmeen Godder was born in Jersualem and grew up in New York City, where she also studied dance. She has been living and working in Israel again since 1999. As a freelance choreographer, she has been touring the world since 1997 – including the Lincoln Center Festival, Tokyo International Festival, HAU in Berlin, the Place Theatre London, Montpellier Dance Festival, tanzhaus nrw, Kunstenfestivaldesarts and Theater Freiburg. In 2001 she won the prestigious Bessie Award, followed by numerous other international honours. In her studio in Jaffa, which is a place of research and production, she teaches and organises numerous projects, including with the Arab-Jewish community. In recent years, she has also developed intensive work with people with Parkinson’s disease in collaboration with dramaturge and dancer Monica Gilette, which has had a major influence on her artistic practice.
