Movement workshop: floating in the deep sea
Marlene Helling
The workshop invites you to flow, stream and dive in the deep sea. During the workshop, participants combine a physical and theoretical exploration of the water of the deep sea and deep-sea mining.
Deep-sea mining is not yet being carried out, but it is being researched scientifically and commercially. In the Clarion-Clipperton Zone in the Central Pacific, there are large deposits of manganese nodules, manganese crusts and massive sulphides, the mining of which is conceivable in the near future.
In this workshop, after a warm-up and a short input on deep-sea mining, we will embody the actors involved in deep-sea mining. What do the actors who are part of the idea of deep-sea mining say? How does a sea cucumber move? What sounds does the sediment on which the manganese nodules lie make? What gestures does the CEO of The Metal Company make?
