Workshop “Portrait Photography”

With Martin Morgenstern (DGPh)

14:00 - 18:00 | for photographers from 14 - 19 years of age

Workshop

As part of the international photography competition PORTRAITS, a workshop for young photographers will take place in HELLERAU on 22 February 2020. From 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. we will take a closer look at various positions in portrait photography of the last competition years, stroll through the exhibition of the Residence Prize winners, then discuss different approaches and put them into practice – which would require a little prior knowledge about the technical handling of one’s own camera. At the end of the workshop we will discuss our results and put together our own small exhibition in the Festspielhaus.

Photographers aged 14-19 years old, who ideally should bring their own camera and, if available, a simple reflector, can take part. We would also be happy to send you a selection of self-ported portraits (perhaps you submitted them to the competition and would like to discuss them with the workshop participants?), printed on A4 or exposed. Snacks will be provided.

Workshop leader: Martin Morgenstern works as a journalist and photographer. He is the founder and project manager of the PORTRAITS – Hellerau Photography Award, chairman of the board of Portraits Hellerau e.V. and founding member of the Dresden Forum for Contemporary Photography.  2019 wurde er in die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh) berufen.
