Open Studio: Tanzformen

Ira Melkonyan & Hana Umeda

2024/25 Tanzformen Open Studio Residenz

As part of “Tanzformen: Empowering Bodies”, artists Ira Melkonyan and Hana Umeda are part of a residency program in HELLERAU. In a joint Open Studio, they will provide insights into their respective research:

In her research for her new project “Blood Thirsty”, artist and biologist Ira Melkonyan continues her research into the performativity of fluids. By reinterpreting blood and other biological substances, she explores a feminist mysticism of leaky bodies, political boundaries and feelings of connectedness.

The performer, dancer and teacher of classical Japanese dance Hana Umeda is working with the dancers Andrii Romanenko and Masha Shalagina from Russia and Ukraine for the new project “Revival”. They build an organism from space, sound and their bodies and imagine the performance as an entity.
