Berlin is Burning

“Berlin is Burning” is a dance film project with homo- and transsexual refugees from Berlin. Together with dance teachers, who themselves have migration experience, they develop a choreography in the style of “Voguing”, which they accompany under the guidance of director Michalina Mrozek. Voguing is a dance style that was developed in New York in the 80s by queer blacks and Latinos. It is composed of proud poses inspired by Vogue models. They were designed to give self-confidence in an everyday life often marked by hostility, both in the urban LGBT scene and in one’s own ethnic communities. Experiences that also belong to the everyday life of queer fugitives in Berlin.
