Behind the scenes: Über die Performance „gegeneinanderüber“

Ursula Sax und Semjon H.N. Semjon

Vortrag Gespräch

Talk with Prof. Ursula Sax and Semjon H. N. Semjon (her gallery owner) and André Schallenberg about their performance “gegeneinanderüber” from 1994.

The video documentation will be presented to a larger audience on the occasion of the premiere of the Dresden Appia version of their “Geometrisches Balletts (Hommage à Oskar Schlemmer)” at the Festspielhaus Hellerau and their accompanying exhibition “Tanz mit dem Raum – Das Geometrische Ballett und andere performative Projekte”.
The first public screening of this video takes the artist almost back to where she had performed this performance in the Lipsius Year (builder of the Academy, now the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts) as a professor of sculpture there with numerous protagonists. It is another premiere parallel to the Appia version of her “Geometric Ballet” during the Appia Festival.
The conversation attempts to work out how the very early closed core sculpture of the 1950s was transformed into an opening of the sculpture into space, and how the moment of movement, the conquest – the dance with space – took place, and parallel to this, the participatory concept for performative projects developed.
