In 1913 stage designer Adolphe Appia and light artist Alexander von Salzmann created the prototype of a new theatre stage for the 20th century that inspired artists* worldwide, especially the Bauhaus founders. Following its successful presentation in autumn 2017, the reconstructed Appia stage will be back in Dresden in September 2019 as part of the “100 Years of Bauhaus” anniversary celebrations.
On 8 September 2019, on the Day of the Open Monument, a playtime festival will open the Appia Stage throughout the building, including “Xiang Peng Figural Space Cabinet” (China Academy of Arts Hangzhou) in collaboration with Bauhaus Open Stage/Bauhaus-Museum Dessau.
Until 21 September 2019 there will be numerous other performances, dance and music events as well as workshops and exhibitions.
Guided tours of the Festspielhaus Hellerau are offered regularly.
