Open Studio: Exploring Echoes
Liera Polianskova
The concept of the state border is mainly interpreted as a phenomenon of the political world — the world of people. Wild boars crossing the river from the bank of Ukraine to the bank of Romania, lizards traveling on trains from Italy to Germany, in turn, wolves running from Germany to Poland — a constant cycle independent of EU passports and checkpoints, of map lines. But, just like the Karman line, this independence turns out to be conditional. And at some point we will find out that both for aircraft and for some migrating birds, the territory of Ukraine has become a no-fly zone. War is a constant, but not obvious, variable of history and manifests territorial boundaries; delineates the borders of our memory, our identity.
Thinking about this reality, the media Artist Liera Polianskova often thinks about migratory birds and the lines of new routes in their memory maps, about the voices that our parabolic microphones will no longer hear.
In the Open Studio she will share insights into her research and artistic practice.
