Dance Congress 2019

In recent years, the dance congress, supported by the Federal Cultural Foundation as a cultural beacon, has developed into one of the most important events, network meetings and places of reflection in the German dance scene. The Kulturstiftung des Bundes Dresden has chosen Dresden as host for the 2019 edition. In addition, Meg Stuart will be the first choreographer to be commissioned as artistic director of the dance congress, thus strengthening the experimental and international character of this event.

For the Dance Congress 2019, Meg Stuart is developing a gathering format that will tackle contemporary questions of dance – inspired by the utopian setting HELLERAUs – in a practical and collaborative way. Together with experts* from the arts, sciences, politics and esoterics, the up to 500 dancers try out various physical practices, discuss philosophical and scientific concepts and look at political activism of different times and places to find inspirations for contemporary dance. The entire HELLERAU plant is included. Ideas and concepts of the dance congress are presented to the Dresden audience in advance in satellite events and supplemented by a meeting format between the Dresden city public and the professional congress audience.
