David Adam: Erinnern der Gegenwart

In recent years, Dresden artist David Adam has been working on forms of commemorative culture, particularly at sites of the persecution and deportation of Jews in Dresden during the National Socialist era. A visible sign of this is his installation on the ruins of the reception building of the old Leipzig railroad station, the former Dresden-Neustadt freight station: Wann Wieviele Wohin.

“Erinnern der Gegenwart” (Remembrance of the present) describes the moment in which we connect with the past without losing sight of the present. Remembering is not just a passive retrospective; it is an active, living process that constantly accompanies us and influences our perception of the present. The present of remembering is an interface between what was and what is. It allows us to reflect on past experiences, integrate them and draw meanings from them that shape our actions and thoughts in the present.

With the works “Tabula Phrasa”, “Der bedingungslose Romantiker”, “Zur deutschen Romantik” and “kibb uz”, which will be shown at the Festspielhaus Hellerau (Studio and Ecksalon WEST) from February 14 to 16, 2025, he poses questions about a culture of remembrance in the present.
