Chamber music has occupied Olga Neuwirth since her beginnings as a composer and remains a constant in her work to this day. And it is her work with just a few instruments – occasionally augmented by live electronics, samples or video feeds – that shows in a particularly concentrated way what makes her music so fascinating: the exploration of new possibilities of sound production, sudden cuts and unpredictable formal twists, superimpositions, ramifications as well as surprising and often ironic allusions and quotations. Among her most recent contributions is the five-part chamber music cycle “CoronAtion,” in which the composer responds to the constraints of the pandemic in widely varying instrumentations, from solo percussion to brass ensemble.
