PEEP SHOW

Miriam Budzáková

2024/25 Nebenan Performance Installation

PEEP SHOW is also a metaphor for glancing into the privacy of others without the possibility of intervening; it is an exploration of the boundaries of performative experience and a test of the viewer’s patience.” – Michaela Hučko Pašteková, mloki.sk

A performer is inside a DIY arena made of polystyrene – what she does inside can only be seen from the outside through peepholes. The result is a voyeuristic ramble through the situations she proposes. Catch a glimpse, inform others to see a bigger picture together, do a puzzle, try out different angles. The performative installation “PEEP SHOW” can be understood as a metaphor for looking into the private sphere of others without being able to intervene. As an exploration of the limits of the performative experience and a test of the audience’s patience. The act of watching becomes an intimate and participatory experience.

The first version of PEEP SHOW took place in 2024 at the Cultural Center Stanica Žilina-Záriečie in Slovakia. This initial version was the result of a creative scholarship fund Budzáková received from the Slovak Art Council in 2023. The show was staged in a black box theater, with content and spatial dramaturgy developed in collaboration with Tomáš Moravanský (INSTITUT INSTITUT), accompanied by music from Eva Sajanová (God and Eve), and scenographic advices from Dorota Volfová.
