As a European center for the arts, HELLERAU is interested in active cultural exchange within Europe, especially with its direct neighbors Poland and the Czech Republic. The platform “Im Dreieck springen” (Jumping in the Triangle) is therefore intended as a pilot for future, intensified cooperation between cultural actors—artists as well as theaters and cultural institutions—from the three neighboring countries, with a focus on contemporary dance.

The aim is to promote mutual knowledge, appreciation, and artistic exchange—not only between artists, but between all people living in these border regions, as a natural part of a European spirit of community and neighborliness. Borders can (and should) not only have a divisive effect, but also stimulate exchange and cooperation.

Currently, however, political discourse tends to focus on border closures and cultural decline. In our panel discussion “Transnational dance encounters – An Overview,” we therefore want to ask: what cultural collaborations already exist – in the field of contemporary dance, but also beyond – which forms can be expanded, and how can cross-border European exchange be maintained and strengthened in the long term, even in the face of structural dismantling?

Representatives of institutions whose mission is to promote this cultural exchange will discuss these questions on the panel – theaters and cultural institutions from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany, as well as the Goethe-Institut and dance professionals. The discussion is intended as an open forum with the audience – ideas, wishes, and visions are sought, not only from artists, but also from anyone who is interested in a lively cultural exchange between Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany in the future – in contemporary dance as well as all other art forms.
