Information on the reconstruction of the east wing at the Festspielhaus and on the World Cultural Heritage application of the project life reform Hellerau
By 2023, a rehearsal and residence center with studio stage and gastronomy will be built on the grounds of the Festspielhaus in the east wing. The Dresden-based architectural firm Heinle, Wischer und Partner won the competition in 2018. Among other things, the design provides for a generous structural opening of the building. The foyer, which is as high as the building and flooded with light, then provides a view of the listed Kroherbinder and creates the architectural and historical connection from the forecourt to the surrounding garden city. Construction work began in October 2021. Parallel to the conversion work, the Hellerau reform project with the Festspielhaus, Deutsche Werkstätten and Gartenstadt is applying for the title of World Heritage Site. Carena Schlewitt (HELLERAU), Dr. David Klein (Office for Culture and Monument Protection), Jens Krauße (Architectural Office Heinle, Wischer und Partner), Romy Eichler (Office for Building and Real Estate Management) and Fritz Straub (Förderverein Weltkulturerbe e.V.) will report on the status of the individual projects.
