László Göndör suffers an identity crisis when he moves in with his 97-year-old grandmother Éva Katona, a Holocaust survivor, in the middle of the pandemic lockdown in Budapest. For 32 days, grandmother and grandson try to understand each other’s pain and trauma and express their affection for one another. The initial rift between their generations develops into a process of understanding and acceptance. In “Living the Dream with Grandma”, conversations between the two are recreated on the basis of video and audio recordings. The result is a poetic and humorous solo that conveys the profound effects of the Holocaust right up to the third generation.

László Göndör studied applied economics in Budapest before going on to study acting, dance and theater directing in the USA and Indonesia. His works are known for their cheeky and ironic playfulness, for balancing entertainment and taboos, for mixing trash aesthetics and conventional beauty. In 2020, he won the Staféta Prize, a program to support the most promising young Hungarian theater makers.
