Workshop of waacking and voguing, Indian dance styles & music

Sangram Mukhopadhyay is an Indian dancer based in Calcutta. His club background and involvement within the queer community characterize his dance style – his physical and artistic expression is best described by Waacking, a dance style coined in the gay club scene of the 70s in Los Angeles.

In his workshop, traditional Indian dances are combined with voguing, electro or waacking and the boundaries between the genders are fluidly mixed through this movement material. Among other things, arm movements are explored – hastas (arm gestures rooted in neoclassical Indian dance forms) meet hand performances (circular movements of the upper limbs, such as those found in waacking). Come by and immerse yourself in a world of beings dancing joyfully together.
