GIREVIK
Roman Škadra
“GIREVIK” is a performance with one man, a wooden floor and 200 kg of kettlebells. Roman Škadra moves heavy material. The kettlebells bounce noisily on the floor, forcing his body into a new shape with every movement. He precisely piles up the weights into sculptures, brings them down and starts again. A delicate game of movement, juggling and sound that continues to expand. In his second piece, Roman Škadra continues his exploration of the sluggishness of objects and questions the aesthetic effect of physical exertion. In “GIREVIK”, he deconstructs an object that is surrounded by a hyper-masculine aura and is a symbol of strength, and searches for an alternative poetics of work.

Roman Škadra is a juggler and circus artist. He moved to Berlin in 2012 and trained in contemporary circus at the Etage – Schule für darstellende und bildende Kunst Berlin. He is part of a movement of artists who challenge the conventional perception of circus and create works that stand at the intersection of different art forms and are presented in different contexts. He draws inspiration from literature, visual arts, sport and human labor. In recent years, his practice has shifted from juggling to the manipulation of heavy objects.
