He is one of the pioneers of the European avant-garde of free jazz. Günter Baby Sommer has been drummer in the legendary Zentralquartett since 1984 and has developed countless programs with artists and writers such as Christa Wolf, Nora Gomringer and Günter Grass. Just in time for his 75th birthday, the always curious and tireless drummer has now made a very special present: with star trumpeter Till Brönner, an album has been created that will be celebrated on September 21 in a birthday concert followed by a party with snacks and drinks in HELLERAU.
Günter Baby Sommer was born in Dresden in 1943, studied at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden and was also professor for percussion and percussion from 1995. Today he lives in Radebeul and still travels the world as one of the most internationally renowned drummers and percussionists. He has released well over 100 records so far. Many of his CDs such as Three Seasons or Songs for Kommeno have received awards from international and German record critics.
