Andrii Portnov , Professor of Entangled History of Ukraine at the European University Viadrina (Frankfurt/Oder), gives insight into his research on the history and culture of Ukraine – from the perspective of a pluralistic Ukrainian society and with a view to Ukraine as part of the European history and present. In 2022, Portnov was awarded the DIALOG Prize of the German-Polish Society for his “commitment to communicating knowledge about Ukraine and its historical interconnections in Europe.”
His publications are devoted to intellectual history, historiography, genocide and memory studies in Poland, Russia and Ukraine. Recently, he co-edited the volumes “Official History in Eastern Europe” (Osnabrück, 2020) and “Histoire partagée, mémoires divisées. Ukraine, Russie, Pologne” (Lausanne, 2020) and published “Poland and Ukraine. Intertwined History, Divided Memory in Europe” (Berlin, 2022) and “Dnipro. An Entangled History of a European City” (Boston, 2022).
