Composers at breakfast
with ensemble courage & Macarena Rosmanich
Chilean composer Macarena Rosmanich is one of the most active voices in a growing, young scene of Latin American female composers. The concept of intertextuality is at the heart of her work. Each piece is linked to other pieces by elements that then create their own universe in a new, different context, which is constantly evolving. This is influenced by narrative literature, poetry and the visual arts as well as by social and political events.

The Chilean composer Macarena Rosmanich is one of the most important voices on the Latin American music scene. She studied composition in Chile, Düsseldorf and Freiburg. Her work includes chamber music, vocal pieces, orchestral music and music theater. In 2024 she is a fellow and composer in residence at the Archiv Frau und Musik in Frankfurt/Main. Intertextuality is at the heart of her work – each piece connects with other works and creates new sound spaces. Her aim is to dissolve boundaries through music and poetry and enable new forms of interpretation.
The ensemble courage was founded in Dresden in 1997 on the initiative of Benjamin Schweitzer. It is dedicated to contemporary music and has realized over 50 world premieres. Guest performances have taken it to major concert series in Germany and international appearances with the Goethe-Institut. The ensemble has received awards from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and the City of Dresden. Its repertoire includes works by young composers as well as 20th century classics. It experiments with new concert formats and cooperates with other ensembles and visual artists.
“Composer at Breakfast” is a cooperation between ensemble courage and HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts. The concert is supported by the Office for Culture and Monument Protection of the City of Dresden and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.
