Tribute to Udo Zimmermann

HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts pays tribute to Udo Zimmermann’s merits for the institution:

“As founding director of HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts from 2004 to 2008, Udo Zimmermann shaped the house as a production and meeting place for the liberal arts regionally, nationally and internationally. Under his direction, HELLERAU’s close collaboration with the Forsythe Company began, supported by the cities of Dresden, Frankfurt am Main and the states of Saxony and Hesse. With his work in and for HELLERAU, Udo Zimmermann has made a significant contribution to the opening and development opportunities of the contemporary cultural scene,” says Carena Schlewitt, artistic director of HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts since 2018.

Moritz Lobeck, since 2019 director of the festival “Dresdner Tage der zeitgenössischen Musik” (Dresden Contemporary Music Days), originally founded by Udo Zimmermann: “Udo Zimmermann was formative for New Music as a composer, but above all as a tireless and internationally active cultural manager and artistic director. Especially with regard to the current developments in East Germany, such impulses of artistic self-confidence are becoming more important again.”
