Open Call „Be mobile – Create Together!“

“Be mobile – Create Together” will host artists* from different countries in the following artist residences:

  • in Germany HELLERAU – European Centre of the Arts (Dresden), Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin) and Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart);
  • in France Camargo Foundation (Cassis), La Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris) and Le Cube (Issy-les-Moulineaux);
  • in the Netherlands, exchange program Dansmakers (Amsterdam), Rast Theater (Amsterdam), Van Eyck Academie (Maastricht) and Writers Unlimited (The Hague);
  • in Turkey, arthereistanbul (Istanbul), İKSV Residency (Istanbul), Barbara Residency (Ayvalık), Göl Yazıevi (Bursa), Misi Art House (Bursa) and Nesin Art Village (Şirince)

“Be mobile – Create Together” is supported by Institut français de Turquie, Dutch Embassy in Turkey, Goethe-Institut Istanbul and Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV).

The residence programmes will host a total of 26 artists* – 13 from Turkey and 13 from France, Germany and the Netherlands. The aim of the residence is to give the artists* the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and insight into the local culture, to engage with the local art scene, to make contacts, exchange ideas, gain inspiration and carry out an artistic project as well as to research, work and produce with other artists* in the countries they visit.

The residence covers all costs related to travel, accommodation and production.

The periods of the residences are:

France

Camargo Foundation (Cassis) – 2 months, 2 artists* between September-October 2019 and February-March 2020
La Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris) – 1.5 months, 2 artists* between 3 September and 13 October 2019 and 17 December 2019-29 January 2020
Le Cube (Issy-les-Moulineaux) – 4 months, 1 artist* between 15 September 2019 – 15 January 2020

Germany (German)

  • HELLERAU – European Centre of the Arts (Dresden) – 5 months, 1 artist*in from autumn 2019
  • Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin) – 5 months, 1 artist* between January – May 2020
  • Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart) – 5 months, 1 artist*in between 15 October 2019 – 15 March 2020

Netherlands

  • Exchange program Dansmakers (Amsterdam) – 3 months, 1 artist*in between 1 and 19 October 2019
  • Rast Theater (Amsterdam) – 3 months, 1 artist*in between 30 September and 20 October 2019
  • Van Eyck Academie (Maastricht) – 3 months, 1 artist*in between 1-30 November 2019
  • Writers Unlimited (The Hague) – 3 months, 1 artist*in between 10 January and 9 February 2020

Turkey

  • Arthere (Istanbul) – 3 months, 1 artist*in between September-November 2019
  • İKSV Residency (Istanbul) – 3 months, 12 artists* between September 2019-May 2020

Barbara Residency (Ayvalık), Göl Yazıevi (Bursa), Misi Art House (Bursa) and Nesin Art Village (Şirince) complete the residency İKSV by inviting artists* to one-week excursions in the following program:

  • Barbara Residency (Ayvalık) – 1 week excursion, 4 artists* between September 2019 – May 2020
  • Göl Yazıevi (Bursa) – 1 week excursion, 4 artists* between September 2019 – May 2020
  • Misi Art House (Bursa) – 1 week excursion, 4 artists* between September 2019 – May 2020
  • Nesin Art Village (Şirince) – 1 week excursion, 4 artists* between September 2019 – May 2020

Target audience

The residences are open to artists* who deal with the performing arts, fine and digital art and literature. The jury will evaluate the applications, which focus on the goals of intercultural dialogue. Artists* who are willing to get to know the art scene in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Turkey and to deepen their knowledge of the context are more likely to become winners of the programme. Active interest in the programme and a continuous stay throughout the programme are required. The jury, composed of representatives of the Steering Committee and the Residence Programmes, will assess the artistic quality and excellence of the applications.

Conditions of application

  • Only young artists* who can prove their ability to produce art can apply for the programme.
  • Artists* from Turkey can participate in the residency programmes in France, Germany and the Netherlands, while artists* from France, Germany and the Netherlands can participate in the residency programmes in Turkey.
  • The residence programmes are open to artists* of all nationalities living in France, Germany, the Netherlands or Turkey.
  • However, artists* should prove that they have been legally resident (for at least three consecutive years) in France, Germany, the Netherlands or Turkey.
  • Applications must be submitted in English.

  • The artists*who wish to apply for the programme upload their CVs, portfolios (max. 8 MB), a letter of intent and complete the online form.
  • The closing date for applications is April 30, 2019, 18:00 (GMT+3).

Selection of artists

The selection process is divided into three phases: Application phase, pre-selection and final selection of the international jury.
