Resident Artist Showcase

Pierre-Luc Senécal

2023/24 Residenz Musik

Every year the Goethe-Institut Montreal, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and Le Vivier – Carrefour des musiques nouvelles offer two residencies in composition in new music composition in Montreal to composers living and working in Germany. Within the framework of this exchange, one Québécois composer will reside two months at HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts Dresden. The residencies aim to offer networking opportunities and long-term exchange between Québécois and German composers, as well as contributing to the development of their artistic practices. The residencies also aim to contribute to the dissemination of the selected composers’ works in Québec and Germany.

In 2023, Montreal-based composer Pierre-Luc Senécal has been selected for a residency at HELLERAU, where he will present himself to the public in a showcase on 17 November 2023: “In my showcase, I’ll present two pieces. “Nacht” played on an invented wind instrument, evokes fear and yearning for deliverance. “Schrei” is an expressionistic electronic piece that uses only transformed voice recordings. Both revolve around the feeling of anguish caused by armed conflicts. My hope is that the listener will embark on a cathartic journey reflecting on what it means to be a “human brother”.”
