In her Open Studio, the puppet actress  Daryna Yurchenko will show the performance “Room”, which she developed during her residency and invites to an exchange.  

The two performers combine various elements of puppet theater and autobiographical stories into a performance. A room becomes the starting point for a journey into the inner world of a human being.

Olena Hrabina (1995/ Ukraine, lives in Germany) is a professional Ukrainian actress. From 2017 to 2022 worked in the puppet theater of Kharkiv (Ukraine) and also participated in various theater projects. Played roles include characters from the genre of comedy, drama, the roles of old people, travesty roles and allegorical roles, from Shakespeare’s Ophelia to war in “Mother Courage” by B. Brecht. After the war began in Ukraine lives and develops as an independent artist in Germany. 2022 presented with Ukrainian colleague Katerina Bondarenko together a performance “Black Snow” (reflection on the war in Ukraine) at the German – Ukrainian theater project “E – merge”. In this wordless performance shows the pain of the war through the female body and black polyethylene. Constantly searching, experimenting and playing with different forms of theater and genres are now the focus of her art. 

Daryna Yurchenko (born 1995 in Ukraine, lives in Germany) is a professional puppet actress who worked from 2018 until 2022 with independent theatres Publicist (Kharkiv, Ukraine) and Puppettheater (Zwickau, Germany) She moved to Germany after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. There, she started working as an independent artist. She participated in a residency program in Hellerau for artists DACH in 2022, where she made a video draft for future performance “Puppet, humor, and own thoughts” the focus of which was her inner world. Topic of feelings start to be important for her more then ever. She interest in experimenting with different forms of puppet theater, she is always searching and being open to new experiences.

Under the title “DACH”, Fonds Darstellende Künste 2022 initiated and implemented a residency program for Ukrainian artist:ing in Germany in cooperation with the three networks operating nationwide – the Alliance of International Production Houses, the federal network flausen+ and the Network of Independent Theaters. In view of the war on the European continent, the partners are sending a signal of solidarity and transnational work in the independent performing arts.
