Most of the metaphors we have built around the immune system are outdated. Thanks to new anatomical and biological discoveries, we now know that healing is not about fighting the disease or trauma. Healing is more like a horticultural process: sowing, fertilizing and growing flowers on the damaged soil. In this context, Paweł Świerczek looks at the filmmaker and gardener Derek Jarman, who died as a result of AIDS. How can we heal together? How can we support each other? How can we create a better immune system for our communities, nature and the world?
