Sibling love in the field of tension of outdated gender roles: The lifelong correspondence between Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy shows two soul mates, only one of whom was allowed to follow his own destiny. For the sister, according to her father Abraham, music had to be “only an ornament”, which was tantamount to a professional ban. Yet Fanny Hensel, musically highly gifted like her brother, composed more than 460 works – imaginative, virtuoso and masterfully written pieces that strike sparks and wipe away all talk of being a housewife. With a focus on their oeuvre, Corinna Harfouch and Peter Lohmeyer, together with Japanese pianist Hideyo Harada, invite you to a literary-musical evening all about the siblings Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
