Hans Unstern & Choka

2023/24 Residenz Musik Open Studio

In cooperation with Musicboard Berlin, HELLERAU 2023 has awarded two residencies to pop artists who live and work in Berlin. Choka and Hans Unstern have each spent four weeks working on their projects at HELLERAU and are showing a first insight into their work in a shared Open Studio.

Duration: ca. 1 h 30 min
Language: English and German

Choka is a collaboration between Bolivian multidisciplinary artist Maque Pereyra and Brazilian experimental musician Ricardo Eizirik. Motivated by general aesthetic and thematic affinities they decided to form a platform for collaborations named Choka with the intention of expanding their practices within the realm of music, visual- and performative arts.

Hans Unstern is working on a new song cycle during his residency at HELLERAU. New texts are being written on topics such as the revaluation of care work, criticism of the belief in technology and progress and non-normative gender identities. This results in new songs that are arranged on the self-made harp and other instruments. Sound recordings are first made in the improvised recording studio.
