The Belgian jazz pianist Jozef Dumoulin is considered the “innovator of the electric piano”. And this is not only because he is the first to have a solo record with electric piano in his discography. It all began quite classically on a piano. He still likes to use it today, alongside his greatest muse, the Fender Rhodes electric piano. He plays it over a guitar effect board, amplifying vibrations via pickups. The resulting sound can be altered and Dumoulin uses it in an accentuated way. Behind the technical explanation, a new world of sound awaits us, completely open, experimental and refreshingly courageous.
