Dreamed in Transition

In 2023, the Archiv der Avantgarden and HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts awarded a joined fellowship for the first time, which is aimed at dancers and choreographers to engage artistically and performatively with the materials of the newly opened archive. As part of the opening week of the ARchiv der Avangarden from 04.05. – 12.05.24, Sasha Portyannikova will be showing a work that emerged from the fellowship.

Location: Archiv der Avantgarden, Blockhaus

In cooperation with the Archiv der Avantgarden, Sasha Portyannikova was awarded a research residency in 2023/24, during which the dancer and choreographer was able to engage artistically and performatively with the archive’s materials. In the context of the opening week of the Avangarden Archive from 04.05. – 12.05.24 in and around the Blockhaus in Dresden, Sasha Portyannikova will show a newly created work.

The performance “Dreamed in Transition” combines the time, space, and context of the opening of the Archive der Avantgarden: the transition from a private collection to a public facility, from avant-garde ideas to archive of avant-gardes, from the archive of avant-gardes to the archive of dreams. In a collective walk the audience is guided by a group of performers through several stations around the Blockhaus. The performance will consist of choreographic material referencing the diversity of the eras that preconditioned and followed the avant-garde period and live music interventions corresponding to the historical and dramaturgical contexts.
