The seas between us
Polymer DMT / Fang Yun Lo
Taiwanese choreographer Fang Yun Lo, who lives in Dresden, collaborates with Taiwanese dancer Chou Shu-Yi and Singaporean dancer Lee Mun-Wai, who lives in Berlin, to present a complex, moving duet that comments on the unresolved conflict between Taiwan and China. Against the backdrop of conversations about their own biographies and their connection to political systems, the two outstanding dancers and the artistic team explore universal forms of respect – also in the context of major social and global political issues. With their dance interpretations of everyday environments and special events, both performers become a kind of medium, allowing a conflict-laden history to flow through them, ultimately shedding it and arriving at a very direct interaction. Taking on each other’s stories, physically recreating these narratives, changing them or merging them in the form of duets is what makes this collaborative choreographic work so special.
A production by Polymer DMT / Fang Yun Lo, in co-production with HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, PACT Zollverein Essen and National Theatre & Concert Hall Taipei.
