House of Research: Zuzana Šklíbov
April & May 2025
In Kooperation mit dem Residenz- und Kulturort Studio ALTA in Prag werden drei Künstler*innen zu einer Residenz in HELLERAU eingeladen.
The theater maker and dramaturge Zuzana Šklíbová uses the residency to research on a new project. Two years ago Zuzana Šklíbová started learning sign language, which opened up a complex system of gestural communication and, above all, a fascinating way of inhabiting the world with hands. Sign language is a performative language. Language influences the way we perceive the world. Ludwig Wittgenstein said that the limits of one’s own language are the limits of one’s own world. Sign language is different from spoken language, it is more direct and honest. Facial expressions are part of the grammar – experiences are not just talked about, they are performed and experienced.
Within the residency Zuzana Šklíbová works with the choreographic potential of sign language and vibrations, while also connecting deaf and hearing performers and the different ways of perceiving and understanding the world.
There will be an Open Studio on 10. May at 14:00 with Zeynab Kirikou Gueye and Zuzana Šklíbová. Registration via: dold@hellerau.org
