Fatemeh Dehnamak
The Iranian Theater- and Flimmaker Fatemeh Dehnamak is researching on her new Project “Rebellion” during the residency in HELLERAU. As the director of the Nesyan Theatre Group—which centers its practice on the performative form of documentary theatre— Fatemeh Dehnamak intends to explore and investigate the power dynamics embedded within romantic love in the upcoming project of the group. These dynamics are shaped by a multitude of forces: the legal and judicial system, patriarchal cultural norms and traditions, economic structures, the educational system and gendered socialization, dominant narratives around love and loyalty, social pressure and collective control, and—in an Islamic society like Iran—Islam and prevailing interpretations of the Quran. Through this project, the Nesyan Theatre Group aims to offer a redefinition of love from a feminist perspective, using performance as a critical tool to challenge dominant narratives around romantic love and propose new possibilities for connection and intimacy.
In cooperation with Theatertreffen Berlin and the Goethe Institut.
