Founding stories of independent production houses in East Germany

At the beginning of the 1990s, a flurry of artistic activity developed on the Festspielhaus site. Theaters, festivals and associations were also founded in other places in East Germany, setting new trends and aesthetics. Detlev Schneider, one of the formative figures of the 1990s at HELLERAU, will give a talk on this period. Following this, there will be a discussion with colleagues from various East German cities who initiated similar founding processes

Invited speakers include Sven Schlötcke (artistic director of Theater an der Ruhr Mülheim, co-founder of Theaterhaus Jena), Sven Till (Fabrik Potsdam), Anne-Cathrin Lessel (LOFFT Leipzig) and Carena Schlewitt (HELLERAU). The panel will be moderated by Kathrin Tiedemann, artistic director of the FFT Düsseldorf, who was a journalist for Theater der Zeit in the 1990s.
