TENT PhD*: Practices of Sharing and Receiving
23. – 25. August 2025
“Practices of Sharing and Receiving” is a three-day gathering at HELLERAU hosted by a group of 6 practitioners – Gerko Ergert, Pankaj Tiwari, Petr Dlouhý, Rency Philip, Sveta Grigorjeva & Tilman Aumüller – coming from Germany, the Netherlands, India, the Czech Republic, and Estonia. Together, they form TENT PhD*, a non-academic 3+ year global program for artists, curators, and researchers who wish to pursue their practice into a long-term trajectory with peers from their field.
The gathering provides a space to prototype ways of being and learning with each other within the landscapes of work in the performing arts and turbulent societal changes. In doing so, the group aims to build a community of practice that goes beyond the confines of traditional academic spaces, one where they can transfer each other’s lived experiences, share insights, and cultivate practices that have the potential to transform both the individual and the collective.
The program is constructed within three trajectories: Sharing Circle, Receiving Circle, and Public Circle:
- In the Sharing Circle, the group of artists facilitates workshop sessions from their personal methodologies, including tarot readings, storytelling, pen-and-paper gaming, hosting conversations, cooking together, body-based practices and rituals.
- During Receiving Circle, the participants are asked to contribute their own knowledge such as how to ask good questions, giving feedback, exploring particular topics.
- The Public Circle is oriented to a wider public, offering a set of practices that could benefit our daily life beyond the art-making. These practices will be shared by the artists in three different workshops, open to anyone interested. More information about the workshops can be found here.
