With “TUNE BACK (time)”, the go plastic company continues its artistic exploration of emotional states, focusing on memory and nostalgia as a mirror of our present. Following “mind the rage” (2022) and “MELANCHOLIC MARATHON” (2023), a choreographic production emerges that navigates between longing, indulgence and the revisiting of past images and feelings.
The starting point is the aesthetic of so-called “vaporwave” – an internet and pop culture movement that reassembles images and sounds from past decades: old adverts, early computer interfaces, fragments of pop music or slowed-down sounds. This gives rise to dreamlike visual worlds that straddle the past, visions of the future and digital everyday life. The production invites the audience to immerse themselves in an atmospheric universe that feels both familiar and alien.
At the center is a quintet of performers. Their bodies become projection screens and echo chambers between the past and the present. The choreography works with repetitions, shifts and fragmented sequences – like digital loops or image distortions – and translates virtual aesthetics into physical presence. Auditory and choreographic material draws on collages of personal reflections, pop culture and digital archives from the 1980s to the 2000s. Sounds, images and movements are sampled, distorted and recombined. This creates a moving archive of collective influences and raises the question of what we wish to preserve, forget or reinvent.
