Spanish dancer and choreographer Israel Galván is the leading avant-gardist and world star of flamenco, whose works question and push the boundaries of the genre. Technically highly virtuosic, he plays with tradition in a way that has never been seen before in Spanish flamenco.
The piece “La Edad de Oro” is Galván's most successful choreography - it has already been performed hundreds of times. The title “The Golden Age” refers to the period from the middle of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century, when most of the sub-genres of flamenco known today were created. During this period, its expression remained simple and sincere - an intimacy that Galván endeavours to capture in this piece. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of “La Edad de Oro” on stage, Israel Galván renews the program with the voice of María Marín and Rafael Rodríguez on guitar. Together they distil the essence of flamenco down to its core elements of dance, song and guitar and reinterpret it with their unique style for a contemporary audience.
