On 5 and 6 December, Polish theater director Marta Górnicka will be presenting her impressive choral work “Mothers – A Song For Wartime” at HELLERAU. For the performance, Górnicka formed a choir with 21 Ukrainian, Polish and Belarusian women aged 9 to 72. On stage, the women unite their voices in a cry against Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Traditional songs are mixed with nursery rhymes, incantations and political commentary.
“Does one person set the tone, or do we coordinate with each other?”
“What do I want to amplify and where do I not join in?”
One hour before the performance, you are warmly invited to take such questions with you when we sing together on the forecourt of the Festspielhaus under the direction of musician Rosa Klee. This will open our ears to the choral piece by Górnicka that follows.
You will be provided with free tea on the forecourt while you sing.
Biography
Rosa Klee is a musician and philosopher who sings, plays and writes. She sees choir as a mirror of community/society - at best as a utopian rehearsal for other conditions in which every single voice is heard. Anti-fascist, feminist, queer (choral) practice is not only evident in the text or the what, but also in the who and how. But how?
