ANART (DK)

s part of Moving Identities, the artist group ANART from Copenhagen explores the effects on nature and sustainability in the context of war, with a focus on the war and the destruction of the environment in Ukraine. ANART consists of four dancers and a sound artist. The founding of the collective goes back to the production “Flowers also cry” by Anastasia Krasnoshchoka. This documentary dance piece shed light on the life experiences of Ukrainian women in the midst of the conflict, made their voices audible and campaigned for justice.

In a joint Open Studio ANART and Las Sistahs (ES) provided insights into their research process.

ANART was selected as an artist group from Denmark for the Moving Identities residency program 2024-2025. 

Anastasia Krasnoshchoka

Anastasia Krasnoshchoka is a Ukrainian choreographer and dancer based in Denmark. After training at the Copenhagen Contemporary Dance School, she studied dance and completed a PhD in laser diode lighting. In her work, she combines art and activism and uses improvisation to negotiate social and political issues. Her debut “Flowers Also Cry”, a documentary ode to women in times of war, premiered in Copenhagen in 2023, was awarded the European Charlemagne Youth Prize and successfully toured Scandinavia.

Lúa Mayenco Cardenal

Biography Image

Lúa Mayenco Cardenal is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and graphic designer. After graduating from the Carmen Amaya Dance Conservatory (Madrid), she studied at the Juilliard School in New York, where she was the first Spanish dancer to graduate in 2020 and was awarded the Juilliard Career Advancement Grant. She then joined the Danish Dance Theater and performed in works by Ina Christel Johannessen, Roy Assaf, Marie Topp, Fernando Melo, Dorotea Saykaly and Marina Mascarell. After four seasons with DDT, Lúa is now starting her freelance career from Copenhagen, exploring new forms of movement, exchange and connection.

Maria Solei

Biography Image

Maria Solei (*2000) is a dancer born in Estonia and grew up between Tallinn and Barcelona. She began her training at the Estonian Dance Academy, studied filmmaking at Collegium Educationis Revaliae and danced for two seasons with ETA Kompanii. Since 2020 she studies at CCDS in Copenhagen and works with international collectives such as Taikabox, Copenhagen International Arts Collective, Dansverkstæðið and e-lektron. She recently performed in “Flowers Also Cry” by Anastasia Krasnoshchoka, awarded the European Charlemagne Youth Prize, and was nominated for Best Dance Performance at the Estonian Theater Awards for “Body Of Dreams”.

Natalie Cox

Biography Image

Natalie Cox (US/DK) is a contemporary dancer based in Copenhagen. Originally from Los Angeles, she began her training at the Degas Dance Studio, attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and studied at the Peabody Institute and the Copenhagen Contemporary Dance School. After graduating, she worked as a choreographer, teacher and film actress. Most recently she appeared in Anastasia Krasnoshchoka's “Flowers Also Cry”, which was performed in Denmark, Sweden and Finland. Artistically, Natalie explores physicality, habits and narratives - for her, dance is inherently political and a tool to make critical issues visible.

Karl Chueiri Heding

Biography Image

Karl Chueiri Heding works at the intersection of art and technology, often using software programming environments to develop customized interactive systems for compositions, performances and installations. He currently works primarily as a sound designer and technician for theater and other performing arts.

Host Artist Prof. Rita Aozane Bilibio

Biography Image

Prof. Rita Aozane Bilibio accompanied the ANART residency as a local host artist and supported the process through exchange and feedback. Born in Brazil, she studied dance in Brazil and at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen and worked as a dancer with Pina Bausch and Sasha Waltz, among others. A scholarship from the Kunststiftung NRW gave her an insight into the work of Forsythe, Vandekeybus and Ahmed. From 2007 to 2013, she worked as a freelance choreographer and teacher, and since 2013 she has been a professor of contemporary dance at the Palucca University in Dresden.
