Transgenerational work in the performing arts
As part of the "Art and Encounters" series of events organised by the Alliance of International Production Houses, the symposium "Transgenerational Work in the Performing Arts" took place from 18-20 June 2025 as part of the "Watch Out! Festival for Young and Old". Artists, students, employees of institutions for children or senior citizens, cultural education mediators, alliance colleagues and all those interested in intergenerational forms of dialogue were invited.
After a joint welcome, three themed rooms offered different perspectives: Representatives from explore dance, Kulturgeflüster Dresden and theatrale subversion presented their work in the "Raum Jung" (Young Room). The "Raum Dazwischen" (In-between Room) focussed on projects and positions of Christiane Lehmann, artistic director of Bürger:Bühne, dancer Helena Fernandino from the Kulturbaude and freelance artist Nazanin Zandi. In addition to artistic positions by Kieron Jina & Antje Schupp, museum educator Ramona Nietzold (SKD) together with Manuela Scharf, representative for people with disabilities, and cultural geragogues Almut Koch and Marie Schneider also reported on their work in the "Raum Alt" (Old Room). Workshops, moderated discussion rounds and an open exchange complemented the inputs and enabled practical discussions.
The focus was on the question of how transgenerational dialogues can arise in creative spaces and have a lasting effect. It became clear that intergenerational work not only brings together different perspectives and experiences, but also opens up new forms of artistic mediation. The event concluded with the presentation "Fight for your fairytale" by the go plastic company.
The symposium was moderated by Petra Jeroma and Vincent Kresse (Geheime Dramaturgische Gesellschaft)
