Watch Out!

Every two years, HELLERAU hosts the "Watch Out! Festival for Young and Old". This edition of the artistic and participatory programme is once again aimed at audiences of all ages and showcases works by international and local choreographers and actors from urban society.

For Watch Out! 2025, three pop-up pieces were presented by explore dance - Netzwerk Tanz für junges Publikum. The performances are specifically designed to bring different generations together and make cultural participation possible for everyone. The artistic programmes were rounded off by the "Art and Encounters" format - an opportunity to meet, participate and engage in conversation before or after the performances at HELLERAU.

In a special collaboration with the TU Dresden, students from the accompanying study programme "Seeing, Thinking, Playing Theatre" developed alternative formats for audience discussions for Watch Out!. Accompanied by a group of theatre makers and mediators - die Geheime Dramaturgische Gesellschaft - the students independently conducted all audience discussions following the pieces. During the festival period, they viewed performances, observed the festival events, scrutinised structures and initiated an exchange with the audience.
