Sustainability
HELLERAU - European Centre for the Arts is committed to conserving resources and reducing CO2 emissions in all areas. Since 2020, one representative from each department has been working as a Green Delegate on the development and implementation of joint sustainability goals. This has already enabled us to implement various sustainability measures in recent years. in 2022, HELLERAU signed the Dresden Charter for Sustainability in the Cultural Sector.
Kulturgarten HELLERAU
The Kulturgarten behind the Festspielhaus serves as a scenic area and additional performance venue. We regularly award an Artist-in-Garden Residency in which artists explore the interfaces between people, nature, culture and technology.
Artistic projects
Claiming Common Spaces IV: Cool Down
At the "Claiming Common Spaces IV: Cool Down" festival from 1 - 9 July 2022, 22 art projects were presented in which artists dealt with the effects of the climate crisis.
Climate-neutral production "Join"
As part of the ZERO project of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, HELLERAU realised the climate-neutral production "Join" together with the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company in September 2024. In the run-up to this, a greenhouse gas balance was drawn up in spring 2023 at HELLERAU.
