Biography

The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan was founded in Taiwan in 1973 by the choreographer Lin Hwai-min and was the first contemporary dance company in the Chinese-speaking world. In 2020, Cheng Tsung-lung took over as artistic director. Cloud Gate tours worldwide and is regarded as “Asia’s leading contemporary dance theatre” (The Times) and “one of the world’s finest dance companies” (FAZ). Cloud Gate draws on classical, folk and modern dance traditions from both Western and Asian cultures, transforming ancient aesthetics into a contemporary language of movement.
