THE CONSTITUTE

In 2016, Christian Zöllner and Sebastian Piatza, through their studio THE CONSTITUTE, created the FABMOBIL—a black, state-of-the-art double-decker bus that serves as a mobile art, culture, and future lab for rural Upper Lusatia. On board is everything interested young people need to try out and learn creative technologies such as programming, 3D printing, virtual reality, and robotics.

For the opening of the HYBRID Biennale 2026, not only will the FABMOBIL be parked in front of the Festspielhaus, but the two digital activists’ latest project will also be unveiled: the “Academy for Applied Future,” perhaps the most exciting artistic project on digital transformation in eastern Germany today. With financial support from the Saxony Digital Agency and the Swiss Drosos Foundation, this academy is being established in the Baroque castle of Oberlichtenau, between Bautzen and Hoyerswerda, as a place of encounter, research, and experimentation for young people. In addition to labs, the site will also feature accommodations, greenhouses, its own energy systems, and plenty of new perspectives. Summer schools are planned, and residencies, courses, and workshops will be offered.

After THE CONSTITUTE was already a guest at the HYBRID Biennale 2022 with projects such as “POINT OF VIEW,” among others, a new chapter in this creative collaboration is now beginning.
