Following the “Building Bridges” international conference in early September, which brought together numerous academic institutions and researchers in HELLERAU to discuss energy, special editions of the HYBRID Biennale are scheduled for early October and November. These events will explore and showcase current and future intersections between technology and art, while also fostering innovative networks and new forms and spaces for creativity.
In addition to audiovisual concerts, interactive installations, and open studios by resident artists, the HYBRID Biennale 2026 will feature institutions such as the Academy for Digitality and Theater in Dortmund, the Festival de Cannes IMMERSIVE, C-LAB Taiwan, and the Academy for Applied Future Oberlichtenau in keynotes, inspirational talks, and showcases. Alongside other partner institutions such as IRCAM Paris, ZKM Karlsruhe, and MUTEK Montreal, these institutions are not only international exemplars of visionary concepts in artistic conception, production, and research, but are also exceptionally important partner institutions for the HYBRID and Immersive Sounds program lines at HELLERAU. The HYBRID Biennale 2026 thus deliberately focuses not only on current artistic projects but also on the internationally and rapidly growing networks of innovative institutions and project developers at the intersections of art, research, and technology, with the aim of providing impetus for new and sustainable communities of practice and artistic productions. The full program and exact dates will be published in August 2026.

Funding
Funded as part of the Alliance of International Production Houses by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. The “Immersive Sounds” focus within the HYBRID Biennale is funded by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. This initiative is co-financed by tax revenues based on the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.
The ‘Canada Digital Arts’ programme is presented in collaboration with MUTEK, with the kind support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. The ‘Taiwan Digital Arts’ programme is presented in collaboration with C-Lab as part of ‘Taiwan Moves’, in cooperation with ESMC, and with the kind support of the TSMC Education & Culture Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan.
