UNRUHE starts out from the theme of the "St. Vitus Dance“, a dance epidemic which infected Strasbourg inhabitants in 1518 and kept more than 400 people dancing in the streets for several weeks. By exploring this strange phenomenon, which continous to be an enigma to this day, and the socio-political context in which it occured, UNRUHE questions wether individual and collective impulses, including the act of dancing, are vital needs.
Are there experiences that we as a society perhaps rarely look for anymore, yet can only be offered by a collective act? UNRUHE invites the audience to a ritual happening somewhere between a concert, a play and a celebration. It‘s an invitation to explore a mystery that only arises when people come together.
