In April 2026, Dresden will become the center of the national up-and-coming breakdance scene. For the first time in Germany, this competition will discover and promote the next generation of breakdancing stars. Organised by the House of Urban Culture (HOUC) in collaboration with The Saxonz, the event promises an explosive mix of acrobatic moves, creative forms of expression and concentrated energy - a must for all fans of breaking, hip-hop culture and sport.
The “Battle of the Year” was created in 1990 as a platform for the then still very small and barely networked breaking scene in Germany. 35 years later, the battle has become one of the scene's most important international competitions. A global phenomenon that brings together the best crews and dancers.
In 2025, the “Battle of the Year - Next Generation” was to provide a stage for the young generation between the ages of 6 and 18 for the first time. However, due to a typhoon, the world final in Taiwan had to be cancelled and all preliminary rounds postponed to 2026.
At the beginning of the event, all crews present their own choreographies and then compete against each other in various battles in front of a jury. The winning crew of the “Battle of the Year - Next Generation” will represent Germany at the global “Battle of the Year”. The focus of this event is on promoting young athletes who, in addition to talent, also embody the breaking culture in energy, discipline, creativity and team spirit and thus bring the spirit to the stage that has made the “Battle of the Year” a global cultural phenomenon.
