TENT PhD*: Practices of Sharing and Receiving

August 2025

"Practices of Sharing and Receiving" is a three-day gathering at HELLERAU organised by six artists and reseachers - Gerko Ergert, Pankaj Tiwari, Petr Dlouhý, Rency Philip, Sveta Grigorjeva and Tilman Aumüller - from Germany, the Netherlands, India, the Czech Republic and Estonia. Together they form TENT PhD*, a non-academic, three-year global programme for artists, curators and researchers who want to develop their practice together in the long term.

The Gathering provides a space to explore ways of working and learning together within the working world of performing arts and turbulent social change. In this way, the group aims to build a community of practice that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional academic spaces, where they can exchange their life experiences, share insights and develop practices that have the potential to transform both the individual and the community.

The programme is divided into three areas: Sharing Circle, Receiving Circle and Public Circle:

  • In the Sharing Circle, the group of artists will lead workshops using their personal methods, including tarot readings, storytelling, pen-and-paper games, discussion groups, communal cooking, body-based practices and rituals.
  • In the Receiving Circle, participants are asked to contribute their own knowledge, e.g. how to ask good questions or ideas for feedback and exploration of topics.
  • The Public Circle is aimed at a wider audience and offers a range of practices that can be useful for our daily lives beyond making art. In the form of three different workshops, open to all interested parties, these practices will be shared by the artists.
