Lola Mael

October – November 2025

The Goethe-Institut Montreal, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and Le Vivier - Carrefour des musiques nouvelles and HELLERAU realise an annual residency exchange between Germany and Québec. As part of this exchange, one composer from Quebec is selected for a two-month residency in HELLERAU each year.

This year the composer and sound designer Lola Mael is in residence from October to November 2025. In partnership with musicians of the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montréal and the poetess Xénia Gould, Lola Mael is currently developing a hyperpop fairytale piece on the subject of gender transition. In researching ways to create symbiosis between woodwind instruments, sound design and hyperpop production, she will spend the residency developing a language capable of translating this personal yet global experience of gender transition.
