Nazanin Hafez
The Iranian visual artist Nazanin Hafez is in residence through the PORTRAITS - Hellerau Photography Award and is researching the political and social contexts and memories of the GDR and Iran.
In her artistic work, Nazanin Hafez takes a critical look at social and political grievances, in particular the effects of the repressive regime in Iran. She uses a variety of media, from photography and collage to video and installation. Her internationally exhibited works have been honoured with several prizes and scholarships.

Nazanin Hafez (*1991 in Shiraz, Iran) is a visual artist living in Iran and Germany. In her artistic practice, she critically examines social and political injustices, focussing in particular on the effects of the repressive regime in Iran. In her current works, she explores the limits of depicting scenes of violence and their actors and victims, always striving for a sensitive and dignified approach to the painful subject. She uses a variety of media, from photography and collage to video and installations.
